The Morality and Ethics of Artificial Intelligence

Howdy! I’m George Wintriss, a Salt Lake City, Utah based high school student who is interested in Artificial Intelligence and its ethical and legal ramifications and boundaries in the modern day! I love technology, video games, math, traveling, and cooking/eating amazing food. I chose to study AI both because I find the field extremely fascinating, but also because it is in many ways, for hundreds of fields, the next logical step forward in terms of advancement. And if someone doesn’t get out in front of the issue, then by the time it’s too late, there won’t be any legal restrictions on what AI is and what it can do, which would have apocalyptic consequences for humanity as we know it. Other than that, I am extremely excited to learn about AI in all possible fields!

AI Scholars have helped me expand my understanding of AI and its uses and forms in the modern world. Right now I am working with Cade Crow, which has been extremely fascinating, and I’ve learned many things about how the morality of self-driving cars works.

Throughout the next few posts, I will be diving into how Artificial Intelligence is regulated in the legal world, and what steps need to be taken to ensure that it receives proper regulation. This issue has become extremely apparent to me over the past few weeks after I watched the documentary “The Social Dilemma.” The documentary led me to fully understand the problems both with how AI is created, its intent, and what information it is given access to.

The people who I want to inform about this important discussion are those in their upper years of high school. This is because they are constantly subject to the problems that I am trying to address through social media, but as well because as they turn 18, they gain the power to enact change on some level through the power of their vote.

I hope to bring awareness of the issues of AI regulation into the eyes of both the general public, alongside young voters who have the power to help create a better more stable future.
